Lipizzaner

The Lipizzaner is a spanish breed, it is one of the most impressive breeds of horse. These fine horses were bred at a stud in Lipica in Slovenia over 400 years ago. They grow up to around 15.1-16.2hh. They are usually grey but can be bay as well. This breed was started with just six spanish stallions that were mated with 24 mares. All of todays Lipizzaners are related to these six stallions.

  1. When I was a young girl my Dad took my sister, Mom & me to see Lipizzaner horses in a show. The show was great. The horses were dressed in battle gear and did different moves that the horses were trained to do during battle. Some were aggressive such as different ways the horses charged their enemy and some were defensive such as doing an evasive move to avoid injury or injury to the rider. Amazing is a good word to describe these horses. I hope I never forget that day.
